From their website, it looks like pre-order only.

mikeypants are you sure? the pccw site is unclear, the 1010 looks like a pre order site and did not see any press releases or anything (i'd assume someone would release one).

pccmobile only shows inquiry, not order or even pre order, so not sure what others are talking about.

If the Bold is available, they better update their site so users can download the HH software, manuals, etc.

Well, I checked it out and there was a big "Order" button. I clicked on it, and it got me to a screen where I could input my "order info". It took all the standard order info stuff, except for any payment method info (or billing address info for that matter). There was a suspicious radio button required item about "Place a $300 HK deposit". Then I clicked "submit".....and that was it. Nothing but a dialog box to inform me that "My Information Has Been Submitted". So now I am going to get SPAMMED by this place to buy a Bold from them. Whoopie...my day is now complete.

These guys, like almost everyone else out there that claims to be "selling" the Bold, are full of s**t. They are trying to generate pre-orders, and they have a deceptive enough system set up that it was even able to trick a reasonably intelligent person like myself into submitting information to them (fortunately nothing that I don't care about being public). I cannot post what I really think about people like this.

I guess that is why there was no press release huh...

Someone with more programming experience than me should write a script that generates 1000 fictitious "orders" per minute using random names and addresses on these guys' site. Hey, when you take "orders" for a product that you don't actually have...then it seems fair that the orders should be placed by "buyers" that also don't exist right? Seems like a fair trade....

Just signed up for the Bold from CSL / 1010. It is due out "mid August". A $300HKD deposit is required for the early release. Price should be about $5000HKD then a 20% discount for the early release. Specific details are hard to get from shops, on the phone, or the website as it seems the CSL people know very little.

Yes, PCCW know only a little about the Bold as well, the only thing they could tell is selling price will be tied up with what the plan you subscribed, the more expensive the plan, the cheaper the device. So the 60% off is not for all cases.

Following up on my original post, here is the text of the SPAM mail I received:

"Dear Mr. Gorin,

Thank you for your email requesting for pre-order of an BlackBerry Bold handset. The current listed price is in about $5,500 range.

Please follow the below steps for pre-ordering:
1. Place a deposit of $300 via credit card to guarantee the order
2. Provide credit card copies [front & back] and its information including
a. Credit Card Number (Master/Visa)
b. Name of Card Holder
c. Expiry Date
3. Deposit will be deducted from the handset price
4. It will be refunded if customer cancels the order
5. Stock will be available in some 3 to 4 weeks, and we will contact you once it is available
6. Only pre-order from local will be accepted
7. Pick-up location: Mongkok

Should you prefer to release the above information through other means, you are always welcome to contact our sales representative directly through our Sales Hotline 2988 1010 (CSL1O1O).

Thank you for your interest in our product. It is always our pleasure to serve you!

Yours truly,

Derek Wong
CSL Customer Service"

Thanks Derek! I can't wait to send you xerox copies of the front and BACK of my credit card (which of course includes the 3-digit security code) on it, so that I can wait "some 3 to 4 weeks" to get my new Bold, and then hop on a jet over to Mongkok to pick it up. What could be better than the giddy anticipation of the new Bold for some 3 to 4 weeks, than a 10+ hour plane trip to experiment with my new toy on the way back to California?

What's my favorite thing about the CSL E-mail you ask? Well, they ask you to provide them with a copy of the front and back of your credit card, but you must also provide them with the credit card number, name of the cardholder, and the expiration date. Of course this information is all provided on the xerox of your card....but you know, just in case. I guess that if not anything else, those folks in Hong Kong are thorough.
