Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.

With regards to your inquiry,
As the P990i has not been officially launched, the chinese support as well as the black berry software has not been released yet.

Do kindly inquire at our service centre after the 24th of August which is the official launch of the P990i

Default Blackberry and P990 - a Scam?

Here is what I got today (22/8) from a SE support center. pls read it twice to believe :
"Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

In regards to your E-mail in reference to the P990i, the phone does support use with Blackberry, however, you would need to contact Blackberry for further assistance and information

As part of Sony Ericsson's commitment to excellent customer service, we offer a wide variety of mobile products to suit your lifestyle. If you require more information, or have any other questions, please visit our website at or call us at 1-866-766-9374".
Read it again.

I'm starting to think this is all a scam - SE publishes it's supporting Blackberry, everybody who knows to appreciate the Usabity of P900 family and needs Blackberry Connect can see immediately he got the best of all worlds if P990 works as Blackberry system - goes out and buys it... Only nobody, NOBODY alive, has ever managed to make it work...The world's biggest cellular scam...

if based on past SE practises, the BB connect will be released via the telco. not directly by RIM nor SE. Perhaps it got to do with the license fee of the software that RIM charges?

This is exactly why the BlackBerry Connect program is a total waste of time. You can get a BlackBerry client for a non RIM device, but the manufacturer won't support you as they claim BB Connect is a third party app, and RIM won't support you becasue it's not a RIM device. It's also a doomed product for BES environments as it only provides 3.6 features (no wireless contacts, sent items, etc) so it's a 'bit' product really. RIM won't be updating BlackBerry Connect to support 4.0 anytime soon either so don't expect much from it unless you're running BIS.

As for BlackBerry Connect in relation to the P990, I think you're asking for trouble. A handset announced a year ago which they still can't get to market. I've used one and it's the most bug ridden device I've ever used and I'd be staying clear for a few more firmware updates (if I was interested in this device which I'm not). It's a shame because before my BlackBerry days I was really in to SE and had each line of devices - P800, P900, P910i before going to my first BlackBerry. In my opinion SE have a lot of problems at the moment.

the support arrangement here in Singapore is a bit different.

RIM do not provide direct support, be it RIM or non-RIM devices. telco fronts all blackberry support from devices to BES. RIM in turn support the telco.

telco will support BB connect for a particular phone, as long as they have launched it as a "product".

Nokia Singapore had once came to my company to assist a case of BB connect issue on a Nokia 9300, by passing the telco.

agree with you that BB connect features is only a small portion of what the real BB offers, especially v4 devices.

Has the BB connect come out for the P990i? Also will it be compatible with people that have BIS service?

Can anyone help? I've tried both Active sycnh and BB Connect on my new P990 and neither will work. I cannot get active synch to find my exchange server, and when trying to register using BB Connect (via BES) I get "APN Connected" for like two seconds, then it disconnects and stays that way. I've followed all instrucstions, and am stuck. I've disabled all other email accounts I have set up on the phone just in case, still no help.

I'm on cingular previsouly using a 7100g. I've got all the service related bells and whistles through my corporate account, so it's not a service issue. Anyone got any ideas? I've tried master resetes, uninstalling-resinstaliing, etc.

Without push email, the P990 is a 1K dollar paperwieght to me!

Thanks in advance for any ideas...

check your firmware version for your P990i

read on another forum that it will only work on the new firmware.

Yup, that did it. I ran the software update then reinstalled, and finally got BB Connect working...

Many thanks!
