Default Duplicate Contacts on 8310

Please Login to Remove!

This is driving me nuts. Here's my setup:

Brandy new 8310
Outlook 2003
BB Desktop 4.3
No BES (yet)

I initially copied my old phone contacts to it's SIM and imported them into the 8310. Of course the contacts came through with all the wrong number types so there was no joy there. Not a big deal as Outlook is where I wanted to start from so I entered my phone contacts into Outlook, told the BB sync utility to copy from Outlook to device only, and did the sync. Every time the old phone contacts show up as duplicates.

I can manually delete the duplicates on both the 8310 and Outlook. SIM in 8310 says no entries. Still when I do a Outlook to device sync the old contacts reappear as duplicates. Where are they coming from??

This has got to be something simple.

Look at Address Book > Filters and see if any filters are set, if so, uncheck them and leave unchecked.

They were unchecked, in fact I just delete both categories as I don't use them. Still, when I did a sync whatever contacts were on the phone showed up as duplicates.

Let's look at it this way; how can I easily wipe out the address book on the 8310? Then if I do a dump from Outlook it should work.

If you have your Outlook setup as you want, then with the BB on USB to the PC, you can use Desktop Manager's Backup/Restore Advanced feature to clear the database on the handheld for the address book. Then just do another sync to Outlook... make sure you have your Outlook sync set the way you desire <--> with data flowing both ways, notify you of conflicts, etc., so that the BB does NOT wipe your data from Outlook.

You should be good to go, then. Good luck with it.

Good point with the Restore but I just bit the bullet and wiped the BB. This is a new device and other than contacts there really was nothing on it. Just restored to factory, walked thru the initial setup, then did a normal 2 way sync with Outlook. All is good now.

Thanks for the help! And next time I'll post on the correct forum.
