Default 2nd hand 8800 with forgotten password!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I've just bought an unlocked 8800 from ebay. The guy who sold it to me didn't say it had a password on it. I contacted him, and he tried to remember the password, and asked me to try a bunch of different ones, but none worked. It's now on 9/10 tries. What can I/he do? Any suggestions gratefully accepted, especially if they don't say 'you're an idiot for buying a used blackberry from ebay!'.

Cheers, Ariane

Enter the password incorrectly one more time.
The device will wipe all previous user data on it, and then you can set a new password of your own.

This is a good thing. Don't panic.

Hi Penguine 3107, and others

Thanks so much for the advice, it worked! This forum is brilliant, really appreciated.

Fraid I have another question. I'm now going through the email set-up wizard, and it says something like this handset is already registered for email. I presume this is from the former owner. I entered my PIN and IMEI, but that didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for your time! Ariane

For this, you'll need to call your wireless carrier tech support and ask them to delete the BIS account that is currently assigned to your device.
This will allow you to set up your own.

So is my wireless carrier tech support the contract provider? in my case, O2 uk? I rang them, and they said the former owner has to log on to his service provider email account and delete it. Can O2 delete it (it was formerly with vodafone but it is now unlocked) or will the former owner need to ring Vodafone? It's weird, cos he said he never used email with the device.

Thanks again for the help, you're a superstar. Ariane.

Also, since the former owner says he never used email, he won't know his BIS user name or password or anything. Is there a way for me to sort this out without his details? Since he couldn't remember his password to unlock the keypad, i doubt he'd know this information.

Sorry for the hassle! Ariane.

You will need the old carrier - Vodafone - to delete the account, as far as I know.

You need to get an unlock code from O2 or perhaps HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß. The code is different for each device, there isn't a 'network' unlock code.
