That's funny, I did a face palm when reading the first post.

My question is....why would a company let someone purchase 10 blackberry's before doing research and making sure they work?!?

So by debranding and reflashing you can change the 3G bands on the 9700?

I recall BG noting that moving forward (iirc) the 9700 & on model series [at least the GSM line] will support (via hardware) all 3G basebands and the carriers would flash the devices to support the basebands they use.

This makes the cost of production cheaper for RIM (one manufacturing line) and the carriers would then configure the units based upon the branding/firmware.

I've seen posts here and there that allow for debranding of phones (allowing the 3G/2G band unlock for the original 9000 previous to the 4.6 updates suddenly supporting the antenna options)......

It stands to reason *it should be possible.*

Note: I haven't tried it.

Just trying to be accurate for many of our new users who went out and bought 9700s and can't use them.

To date no one has been able to change the bands on a 9700, either through hacking, debranding, unlocking or holding their breath. Not BG and not the folks who like using that software from RIM. Just want to be sure we are accurate.

Right?

I was messing around with the engineering settings on my 9700 and came across an option to change the bands used. I dont know if that is strictly used for changing the software setup based on the hardware used,i.e. AT&T or T-mo, or if its a usable solution. Any ideas?

I know how to change it...

But since you don't believe me, I'm not telling...

Just kidding, I'm going to let you guys in on the secret.

Here are the things you need;

1. 6oz glass of camel piss (Arabian)
2 virgin female turtles (must be from TN)
3 left handed door knobs w/o keys
then yell "4 help" and I'm there for ya...
