Default 9780 problems/issues

Please Login to Remove!

I recently upgraded to the 9780 from my 9700 but I have been having some annoying issues.

*Battery life was better on 9700 than my 9780.
My post from battery life thread: "I often experience low battery indications by 7 or 8pm when I wouldn't get anything with the 9700 until 10 or 11 or not at all in most cases.

The 9780 has already suddenly shut down on me in less than 2 weeks without warning when the 9700 did it to me maybe three times in my 1.5 year ownership.

I fully charged the brand new battery that came with the phone then when I started experiencing issues switched it out for my 9700 battery to see if that solved my problem which it did not."

*Im having an issue with a stuttering keyboard which if I have read correctly in some other threads the "softer" keyboard might be the cause of the multiple letters or ending sentences (space) where you don't want to etc.

*I also cant stand that when you open a text message it doesn't automatically go down to the newest message instead it opens at a previous spot that you have already read.

*With the 9700 the phone separated the MMS and SMS and as cool as having the media directly in line with the text it sucks when you have a MMS come in that is suppose to have music as you watch the slide show/picture.

*My car has blue-tooth capabilities but wont stream visual voice mail through the car speakers. My work around with the 9700 was to listen to the message through the phones internal speakerphone but that work around will not work with the 9780

*At times the track pad down motion does not open the tray.

I came across some other threads with these issues but no solutions. I hope that by posting all issues or problems in one thread everyone can benefit from solutions discovered or work a rounds found.

Thank you in advance for reading and any help or insight you can give.

Hmmm I was mainly reading your little paragraph on the battery life issue. That seems odd to me because my battery runs fine and gives me enough power for 15 hours of texting and web browsing per charge.

Could it be that you are over charging it?

And another cause of it that I read on crackberry.com is that because os 6 can multi task, apps run at the same time and are sometimes hidden. When you are finished with an app, don't just hit the exit key. Hit the blackberry logo button (menu button) and scroll down and physically close the app. You'd be surprised how much power those secretely running apps drain.

1) You can't overcharge a Blackberry...

2) OS6, "multi-tasks" the same way as all older BB OS's...nothing's changed, but closing the app in many cases will free up memory and enhance battery life as you pointed out.

On the battery issue - the device is designed to shut down when the battery reaches a certain point (not sure what that point is however) to prevent damage tot he battery. Letting a lithium battery get below 20% on a somewhat regular basis will cause damage. My suggestion it to keep the battery plugged in and topped up. Won't harm the battery doing that.

You can't really "overcharge" a lithium battery. In fact, it is best to keep them topped up.

As for battery life, it depends on too many factors, so what you get really has no bearing on what others can expect. These factors include how much you use it for calls, surfing, GPS, music, videos, etc. and data intensive apps running in the background.

On the weekends, I get 2 days out a charge on my 9800. During the week, maybe 10 hours.

I leave my Bold on charge whenever I'm in my Car desk Home and even asleep, Vodafone said that was best way to treat a lithium battery and don't let it run right down when I'm out doing things I got no issues with it Compared to my Storm.
