I plugged my Bold 9700 to DM 6.0 today and told me there is a OS update for my device. So I agreed to update it and it's taking forever!! It's taken an hour to download the first 26 modules out the 526... WHY??

I spent all frigging day waiting for this thing...

And i have no idea, your connection could be slow, rims servers could be having issues or there could be a million other causes.


as long as the phone it's self hasnt started the update procedure, you can unplug it and cancel the DM update and instead use an OS package (see my signature or the sticky at the top of the 9700 thread for the latest OS)

that will only take 30 or so min at the most.

Do not do this, it will only cause more issues. Just be patient

Yeah, the first part of my guide is about the tools you need to wpie a device and where to get a full OS package.

the guide walks you through installing the OS, extracting the hybrid and loading them together; just ignore the hybrid bits and proceed to loading.

Yeah, I would have said so too. I've upgraded the OS on my 9700 several times and previous berries many times. The 9700 is fast and usually takes about 20 minutes. My 8320 usually took about 40.

BUT! -- I updated an 8520 through DM6 last Sunday, figuring it would take 40 minutes max. Two hours later, I had to leave it running while I went to church. Like the OP said, it was downloading modules at a snails pace. Came back three hours later and it was done, but there is something seriously wrong with DM6 and OS updates.

Oh great...I am in the middle of an update, and actually HAVE to leave work in 40 minutes...been a half hour and I am at 210 of 399...if I lose my internet connection and leave it plugged into my laptop for the drive home, will that be the end of the world???
I have a T1 connection here so it is not my isp that is the issue.

Not sure. it's possible for it to auto resume. Worst case, you will brick your phone.

Either way, you should have made a backup manually (and, i think the DM makes one, too)

This is why i tell people to do the upgrade manually; Assuming nothing goes wrong, it takes about 30 min on an 8900.

OTA/automatically via DM is prone to all sorts of things going wrong.

The more you can control about the process, the fewer shots you have for something to go wrong.
