Default Bold 9000 - Use as Bluetooth Modem for Dell Axim problem

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I am having trouble connecting a Dell Axim X51 to the Web via the Bluetooth on my Bold 9000.

I can get Bluetooth connection between the two and I can almost get on the web but I get a message saying "Internet Explorer Error - The page you are looking for cannot be found. Please check the name and try again"

I know I have everything set up on the PDA correctly because I can connect perfectly through my 8900 Curve. (and a few friends 8900s too)

I have tried all the same settings on three different Bold 9000 but the same thing happens.

My question is: is there a difference between the 8900 Curve settings and the Bold 9000 settings and more importantly how do I overcome this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks TheRinger

But I have already done all of that and succssfully connected through 8900 Curves but doing the same will not allow me to connect through a Bold 9000>

Is there a difference between the two phone settings?

Trying to use the bold as a modem via bluetooth will not do you any good. It is extremely slow. Take a look at this article: How to use your Bold as a modem - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

Smile Two solutions

By now you may have solved your problem; however, here are two solutions in case you are still searching for an answer. These items are additional to the standard setup referenced in other posts.

Solution 1. Downgrade your Blackberry OS software to 4.6.0.167 (AT&T supported software) -- I used this solution up till tonight.

Solution 2. In the Dell Axim, fill in the Primary and Alternate DNS servers with the correct numbers:

These numbers are for AT&T; your carrier will be different
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

This tab is located under the Advanced button on the Dell Axim modem setup menu.

This solution has been tested on OS 5.0.0.411 and works well.

BTW, speed depends on signal strength and carrier load, just a quick check showed the Dell Axim using Blackberry through bluetooth at a respectable 500 kbit/sec. A netbook using the same Blackberry at near the same time and location through bluetooth showed 930 kbit/sec. Ping times were almost identical at 0.49 seconds.

The DNS numbers are from OPENDNS not AT&T numbers.
