Default Anyway to lock screen but not password lock?

Please Login to Remove!

So I have an IT policy that locks the device after 20mins I believe. Password requires 7characters. Im fine with this, from a security standpoint.

However looking for some method from 0-20mins that I can just lock the screen from calling people in my pocket and not have to re-enter the password each time. Right now anytime I lock the device using the power button i forced to re-enter the password each time. Getting annoying yes, but I understand the need for security. But it would be nice to just be able to pick up the device under the 20mins and still quickly get to it without needing a password.

Any ideas?

You can download 'StormSlider LITE" from App World; it allows you to do just that. Basically lets you lock and unlock your screen without any pwd and such.

This is assuming the OP's IT Policy allows for third party installs.

I am not sure how the Storm works, but on other BlackBerry devices, holding the Mute Key for a second puts the device in standby mode. To take it out of standby mode, simply press the Mute Key again.

thanks, the BES does allow me to add third party apps. I did try the Stormslider lite. Also it creates another "layer" of protection say when the device goes above 20mins and locks itself. So then I have to put our standard IT policy based lock/password, then I have the stormslider portion I have to go through (if that was used before the IT policy locked the BB).

The Mute key doesnt work on the new Storms. Im not sure why they removed that function when almost every other blackberry has that option.

Reading/Researching more on this seems like the only way to put it to "sleep" is to get a holster case, which Im not fond of. Id rather have the phone in my pocket then on my hip/belt. This is why that mute button standby function was perfect for poeple like me, just force it in standby and put it in your pocket, no different then you putting it into the holster/pocket case.

RIM needs to put that function back on this phone.

The mute/screenlock key works fine on my Storm2.

You are pressing the upper left button on the top edge of the device?

I use the "PatternLock" which is a free app for my Storm 9550. It works well.

The upper left is actually the lock/power button. Upper right is the mute button. Holding mute does not put it in Standby like i does on other blackberries like 8900, 8800, 8300s, etc.

Hitting the Upper left basically locks the phone and unlocking it requires a password since my IT policy has a password lockout after 20mins, but if you hit that button it instantly locks it.

If you have not set up a password on your Storm 2 then the upper left lock button is great for this purpose. However, I cannot imagine not using a password on my phone so I have to enter it every single time I go to use it. The mute/standby would be nice to have back on this like it is on my 9700 and pretty much every past BlackBerry I have owned.

Yea unfortunately I have no choice since our IT policy requires it and its set to 20min lockout.

Yes, sorry, the top left IS the lock button, upper right is the mute.

Sounds like each are working properly. Your company has the password lock on it for a reason.
