Default Wi-Fi connection issue - Failed to obtain IP

Please Login to Remove!

So I've tried to connect my brand new Bold on two different networks (different routers as well). Both WEP and unsecured network.
I've even dedicated an IP to the MAC address of the Bold, but I always get the same message. The Push Button Setup just times out...
Any ideas?

Thank you for a great forum

I don't know about the Push Button...but just a normal network scan with DHCP and WEP works fine. I just select the network, enter the key and job done.

The Bold supports better encryption than just WEP right? I am going to want to use it on a network that has WPA/AES encryption. Does it work with that?

See my post in the below thread for the security methods available to the Bold:

Thank you for a great forum
Is this a personal router that you have attempted to dedicate an IP with? How many leases is your router configured to give out? Is it possible that even though you have dedicated an IP to that MAC address that another requester on the network didn't have that address dynamically assigned already?

I am having the identical issue. Brand new Bold (yesterday) and unsecured router (no WEP or other security - it's totally open).

When I try to connect, it finds the correct SSID, but it appears to be waiting for me to do something on the router, like accept the connection request or something.

I have occasionally experienced this issue with PC's on my wirless network. It is almost always related to the DHCP server on the network, rather than any issue with the PC. For any number of reasons, your DHCP server is not assigning a new IP address to your device. Typically, a restart of the router will resolve the issue.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you have more than one wireless access point. I have two (2) access points in my home, and they both go to the same router/DHCP server. In certain locations within the home, a device gets picked up by both WAP's simultaneously, which both send the request to the DHCP server simultaneously, causing a conflict which causes the DHCP server to fail to assign an IP address. On most of the PC's I run, there is a setting to specify a "preferred" WAP, so that if the PC is picking up both, it will prioritize one over the other. I don't know if the Bold has a similar setting, but if it does, you should input the MAC address of your WAP here, even if you only have one WAP. If there is conflicting signal from other WAP's in your area, this would prevent any issues when you are connecting.
