Default Hi from Russia (and a question)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

as a new BB user I say hello, plans are to use Torch 9800 and Bold 9000 in our company.
We have received 10 pieces of each of these phones, but we do not have a BES yet. As the hardware for the BES is on order I will have to live some time with the devices without a connection to a BES.

Russian SIM Cards cannot be used for a connection to a non-Russian BES.
I understand that without a connection to a BES I am not able to get mail from POP3 or the likes. This means I am stuck for some time with a nice looking device, but can use it like a phone only ?!?

Is there a way to receive contacts from Outlook through an USB connection ?

Regards,
Ruud

Welcome to BBF.

For POP3, you need a BIS account.

I suggest that you read the user guide that came with your device. It explains how to use BB Desktop Manager to sync contacts, calendar, memos and tasks with Outlook.

Hi Dubdub,

thanks for that reply.
Problem for me was (is) that I am in a foreign country here, the manual is in Russian and too difficult to read for me.
I have installed the Desktop Software on my PC, but the synchronizing of my Outlook Contacts is denied. I get to a place where I should provide a profile from Outlook and there is nothing to choose from.
My Outlook is ONLY connected to our corporate exchange server and I guess this conflicts with the usual way a BB is used.

It would be a p%^& to provide the contacts manually, only for the sake of easier usage until our BES arrives.

regards,
Ruud

Do you have DM properly configured to sync with Outlook?

Can you sync contacts to Google contacts and then sync the BB to that.

Check our FAQ as well. We have info there that should help.

Hi Dubdub,

well I cannot say for sure. At the office, some technical topic stopped me from upgrading the firmware. I was just able to do this now, being at home. But at home I do not have outlook to retry the syncing.
I will be looking at the FAQ now to find some more new topics.
But even though the answer is not found completely, thanks already !

Hi Dubdub,

just for update.
My Torch 9800 came with an older firmware and did not have Wifi. It did not wanted to upgrade in our office. I tried the same at home and the firmware was upgraded without problem, now it includes Wifi.

After the update the same sync with Outlook was possible all of a sudden, the profile was shown and after choosing all my contacts are synced between the device and Outlook. I am a happy camper, now just waiting for the BES.

Thanks again,
Ruud
