Default Hotmail... argh

Please Login to Remove!

My primary email is hotmail and I would love to know if I can auto forward it to either gmail or yahoo since they do reminds on my phone (Sprint 8830). I did a breif search of the forums and didn't see much that helped. I don't know what BIS is.. and if it even works with Hotmail. Any help would be great, thanks.

Hotmail will not work with BlackBerry unless you have the upgraded paid Hotmail Plus account.
That is a hotmail limitation, not BlackBerry's.

If you do, follow these instructions to set it up:

General BIS FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ
Where can I log into my BIS account? - BlackBerryFAQ
How to add / delete email addresses - BlackBerryFAQ

Anything to get a buck... geez. I like this phone but no standard hotmail messenger or easy access to hotmail email is ridiculous. Thanks though for the response.

Place the blame in the right place... hotmail and MS. All the other free services (AOL, yahoo, gmail, etc.) work perfectly with BB.

Oh, I hear ya.. not saying BB. Just the simple fact is it doesn't work with this phone regardless of the reasons, and that is beyond stupid.

You will have a tough time finding a better device. A paid hotmail account is not that expensive.

Does Hotmail not work with Sprint on BIS or something? Works just fine on BIS for me with a regular Hotmail account on T-Mobile. It's not instant like gmail and yahoo, but has 15 minute polling like a regular BIS account. As far as forwarding email from Hotmail, I think they answered above about you needing a paid account for forwarding, but not sure you need to do that if you can retrieve it through BIS.

You can also check your hotmail email through the BB browser if needed at mobile.live.com

rjw, it's a long story, (and I don't know it all, exactly) but basically is such that if you had a hotmail account which is older than a certain point, it will work well with BIS. If it is a newer hotmail account it won't, and you must upgrade to the Plus account.

There is some long history here of the details somewhere, i read it six months ago.

Yes, just got my first BB, and added all my emails saving hotmail for last, glad it worked, had it for a long time and if you do, you basicly get the same service as the hotmail plus..without the added storage!
But lets hope the MSFT acquisition of RIM happens soon, so that everyone will be happy! Cause I can bet Hotmail will be supported for BB owners.

enjoy, great device!

Uh....lets hope the MS acquisition of RIM does NOT happen or your BB experience may never be the same again.

to the original poster, did you try adding Hotmail through BIS?

jsanders, I did read that thread awhile back, but I wasn't sold that it was 100% accurate on which ones work and don't, the original poster should at least give it a try and see if it works.

If MS takes over Blackberry is will be cr^p!

The best thing about RIM/Blackberry services is it's dependability and security or which MS has neither!

I'll add that Hotmail accounts work fine with T-Mobile BIS. Not Hotmail Plus - the standard accounts.

I Think if you've had it pushed to your blackberry for a long time then it works great. I had my wife's hotmail forwarded to my BB 7250 about 2 years ago while we went on vacation and it worked fine. After we got back I deleted it because I didn't need it any more. I recently bought 2 8830's, one for her and one for me, and I had to upgrade to the "plus" version to get it to work on her's this time.

Blame those fascist bastards at Microsoft!

In my original post I said I don't know what BIS is.. if its the same little program on the BB that I put my info in for yahoo and gmail and it connects it then yes I have.

BIS is Blackberry Internet Service which is the most popular because it doesn't require a BES (Blackberry enterprise service) server. Unless you have about $5000 to spend on a server or the business you work for does, then you probably have BIS

Hotmail ... I haven't used my account forever, I remember about 5 years ago when they used to let you forward their mail on the free service, Gmail is much better IMO
