Being the true consumer whore that I am, it's surprising that I've held off so long on the 8800. Now my reluctance is finally justified. And I'm all over the 8300, like ugly on a gorilla. :D

ok, so take away wifi - what's new.

And convince me that wifi is going to make my life better.

Wasn't the 8300 aimed at the prosumer market -- iow a step down from the 8800?

The button on the right is probably the camera button. Like the Pearl. I love the contours. Looks comfortable to hold.

Is it possible that the BB 8300 is really the yet to be released BB 8830?

Just wondering.

The number scaling, to my knowledge, is to denote the slim QWERTY model. The 8300 will be almost as slim as the Pearl, if I'm not mistaken. It's contoured keyboard allows for this slimming effect but allowing it to keep the full QWERTY layout. I think most people should realize that this doesn't take the place of the Wi-Fi-enabled 8800, which will still be the 8820. Unless something has changed, that is.

darn..i just bought an 8800...i hope this isn't released for another year and you're all waiting and waiting and waiting. sorry to be such a nincompoop...but would you rather i be envious. i'll be happy with my 8800 though now...while you have to wait. and if i can hold off for another year, i'll be getting the 9100 with wifi N, 3G, and 4mp cam, larger screen and thinner to compete with you know what's coming.

Why would you assume that the model number would be higher anyway?? Sony's XBR970 isn't any better equipped than the XBR960 (they're TV sets)...

IF your trying to say that there isn't much of a market for BB's that are WIFI enabled, think again.

Nobody can convince you what YOU feel is right for you. However I'll have a go to open your eyes. How many times have you been within a corporate building, site where the heavy grade steel girders are the basis of all pillars within the building, where your cellular signal (even on such lovely 2watt BB's) drops to nothing. No more phone calls, no more SMS/MMS, no more Level1 msg's, and ALLAH forbid no more Emails

Now imagine the same landscape/property where WiFi 802.11g (or "n" please be N ratified & upgradeable from draft) is abundant. Imagine being able to walk in such a place where you've already connected to a NON-secured AP (where the BlackBerry CAN automatically secure such a connection via some type of SSL/SSH VPN connnection) - or secured if you've already saved the WPA key - and continued your call when your Wireless Providers network just wasn't strong enough. Imagine that secretary or colleague can STILL give you a quick phone call or even a level1 message informing you of an update for your conference meeting which is critical for preventing, committing an acquisition or whatever.

BES 4.0 already has the ability to limit options for WLAN devices since the 7270.

But here's the clincher .... not just VoIP, but ..... PB- X support!!! ;) the ability to leave your desk with clients/customers calling just 1 line, 1 # to reach you!

Does this help?!

So is the 8300 starting to make sense now!

You've read well in to this. Of course this is where people like RIM want it to go - integration with existing systems. The problem is they need to convince the carriers who don't like the idea of their revenues being slashed as a result of VoIP or routing calls through the PBX.

Bit confused but hey thats life, does this mean that there is only one version of the 8800? ie No Camera?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but this seems to have all the features that the 8800 was supposed to have but are missing?

Damn, seeing this new device now has me thinking that I should return my 8800, use my pearl and await this one. The new keyboard looks great!

What makes you think that the 8300 does everything the 8800 does and more? It would be a bit silly if RIM released a device, and then a month or two later released another device exactly the same but with more features. I wouldn't expect to see exactly the same features on both devices. Remember RIM is not Nokia, they don't make a habbit of flooding the market with handsets, so I would expect the 8300 to cater for a different market and therefore have different features.

Default forgive me RIM for I have sinned

I owned a 7100t when all of my teenage friends were swayed by MTV to get sidekicks. As I entered college, I felt I needed a better device so I bought the edge enabled 8700g. Later, I thought it would be nice to have a camera phone, so I moved up to the Pearl. I realized how much of a mistake not having a full qwerty keyboard was, but the 8800 isn’t sufficient enough for my needs, so I may have lustfully looked at some winmo devices such as the htc vox, and the p4350. Well, after seeing this device I feel the need to apologize completely to the entire forum for even thinking of switching over to winblow5/6. Please forgive me. Im lovin that gunmetalish look.
