I am thinking about to get BB from Verizon, but I am confuse about the plans that is available and wish someone can shed some light for me.

My company currently have BES available for employee that have BB. so access to corporate email is not a problem.
Question is, if I choose the Calling plan instead of Data plan. Does that mean I will use my voice mins everytime there is a email push from BWC to BB? or it's a BES network and won't occour any mins used from Verizon?

You cannot do email without a Verizon BlackBerry plan.
BlackBerry are only capable of being "always-on" (24/7 like cable or DSL). They cannot dial to download emails.

The calling plan is only needed if you need a phone.

Regardless, a "BlackBerry" labelled data plan is essential. Make sure the data plan you get is BlackBerry. There are only about one or two BlackBerry plans with Verizon, because all the other data plans are not labelled "BlackBerry".

However, there ARE many voice calling plans, usually all of which you can add to a BlackBerry. But if you want email on a BlackBerry, you must have a BlackBerry data plan.

Only the unlimited plan for fifty bucks makes sense. The spam alone would surpass your limit on the lesser of the two plans.

If you recieve very many emails or text messaging, go with the unlimited plan. It only makes sense. I doubt there are very few people who would use a blackberry and have a need for the plan with 5mb.

If you really wanted to go with the 5mb plan, you can turn 'wireless' functionality off on the handheld, and keep it from accepting the pushes of email. If you were really worried about going over, this could hold some email off for a while.

All that being said, as soon as you get rolling with your BB, you will want to be able to use it as much as possible-----and I bet you'd be quickly frustrated by a plan with limits.

It's very hard to exceed 5 megabytes with just email.

You need to use HTML browsing (gobbles 1 to 10meg/day) or Verichat (which gobbles about 1meg/day) to really chew through BlackBerry data.

So if you're just an email-only user, and you don't get dozens of emails per day, then exceeding 5 megabytes is rare.

As someone new to the idea of BBs... I am a bit nervous to jump into an extra $40+/mo data plan (verizon), in addition to the regular $40/mo for voice...

Is it worthwhile/possible, to get a BB (say the 6750) and just use it with a voice-only cell phone plan? I realize that it severely handicaps the BB -- no "push" email feature or internet. But could you still use it to write and read email messages, then synch and send when hooked up to a pc?

I was thinking of getting a TREO just to make text messaging easier (I hate using a numerical keypad) but so many reviewers complain about various problems with the thing that I am no longer willing to shell out the $$ for such a chancy device. Meanwhile, the BB's seem to have everything I want, scheduler, querty pad, phone, plus added data capability if (I decide I want it in the future)...

Any thoughts from current users?

BTW I do not have access to any in-house network... all of my service would be directly through verizon

As a verizon wireless customer who just made the switch over to the blackberry.. some thoughts from my switch.

I have a BB 7250 from Verizon Wireless, I returned a BB 7290 from AT&T when the 7250 came out.

The PIM features really don't compare to a Palm-based PDA. I still carry around my Palm Tungsten E with me just for the basic PIM applications.

I was planning to wait for VZW to come out with the new Treo 650, but it seems VZW will release the Treo 650 later this year, if ever.

The treo 600 is a real dog, the deal breaker for me is the NON-USER REPLACEABLE BATTERY...

So far after a few weeks, I am really pleased with the 7250, the push email service is great. I use the BWC and have all of my emails forwarded to the BWC.

VZW billing is a different story. The customer service rep "forgot" to include my unlimited BB plan to my service. My first bill after switching was a whopper. Without a BB plan, every time the BB receives emails or sends emails, you burn up minutes. In one day alone, i used 450 minutes....
