We are currently moving users from BES Pro 4.x to 5.x Express. At the same time we are migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2003 - 2010. We only have ~50 users so I started just doing a manual wipe. before I do the wipe I have been backing them up using Desktop Manager. I then remove the users account from BES 4.x and add them to 5.x server. Resync with the new BES and restore Desktop Manager backup.
My thought was this would backup users special "Sounds" which I learned were the sound profile modifications and things of the such. What I am seeing though is that "Sounds" is greyed out which I have read means it is sync'd/stored by BES. What I am wondering is can I somehow backup "Sounds" alone using Desktop Manager before I remove the device from BES 4.x and do the wipe? What I was trying to get away from is moving the 4.x DB to the 5.x server because of horror stories I have read.
I will give it a try if you think it will make my life easier. It was recommended to me that as few users that we have that the manual way would save me some headaches. It made me think the migration tool was not as easy as it sounds. But that might be my only option huh?
Just wanted to say thanks. It worked great after a few issues but I was expecting them since we are also in the middle of an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration. After I moved the BES account using the transporter tool the users BB would not sync until I moved the Exchange mailbox to the 2010 server. After that BB picked right up where it left off.
Thanks for the tip and assurance that Transporter would be a simple task!
