I notice some apps have an option to switch to another application (leaving the current app running, I imagine).

I don't see that in VZNav. The escape key (backward facing arrow next to the trackball), doesn't actually allow you to exit the app without shutting it down. Did a search in FAQ and didn't find my answer.

So how do you leave a running app to start something else without shutting down the current application?

Hit the red phone button.

I don't recommend doing this on regular basis as a lot of this can cause the memory cleaner to run and delete calls and emails, etc.
