Exclamation BES Devices do not connect after server restart

Please Login to Remove!

Blackberry Enterprise Software Version 4.1.4.15

After having restarted our Small Business Server 2003 none of our blackberry devices are able to send/receive email. All services are running and have been restarted. It seems like the only way to resolve the problem is to reinstall the software. I am not really sure what the issue is so any help would be appreciated.

"The description for Event ID ( 20406 ) in Source ( BlackBerry Controller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 'AROKSBS01' agent 1: will not restart - reached the maximum of 10 restarts per 24 hours."

Thanks,

Brad

Sometimes the services can actually be started, but the actual BES server isn't started. I have this happen anytime I do a restart as well. Just open Blackberry Manager, click on the server and then click the Server Configuration tab. Under Service Control and Customization, there's a link that should say Start BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Hope this helps.

I have a similar issue with a client. The Microsoft patches for MS08-037 (released yesterday) were installed and after the server was rebooted the Blackberry Controller service will not start and a similar message was found in the event log. After checking the **_CTRL_** log I find the message "LogReceiver: Failed to bind a socket" and "Could not start the syslog receiver subsystem, exiting." I suspected the patches might have a role in this problem. I checked the description of the MS08-037 patches and found reference to "Workarounds for DNS Insufficient Socket Entropy Vulnerability ". The word SOCKET stands out in both. I reinstalled the Blackberry Professional Software v4.1.4a but the issue still exists. I am contemplating uninstalling these patches to see if the Blackberry Controller service will then start.

I find I need to re-start the BES server after the SBS server has re-started and is running, all services then return to normal.

Ok,

I downloaded BPS 4.1.4a, installed and rebooted server and now the BLACKBERRY CONTROLLER service is running again. If you are running BES instead of BPS (Blackberry Professional Software) then 4.1.5 is available. I would suggest installing the update rather than just reinstalling the software, but a reinstall of the current version may do the trick. I have other applications that are exhibiting problems after installing the MS08-37 patches as well.

Good Luck!

Hi aneuron. I've been researching this too. Aside from what everyone else says (restart Blackberry Server, restart Blackberry Services), we've also done an IIS Reset through a command prompt. This seems to reestablish the connection.

Still haven't figured out, though, why it keeps happening. Maybe its cause our BES and Exchange are one server? Maybe I should try and install the updates? Maybe its cause there's a bigger issue? I don't know, but IIS Reset is easier than reinstalling the BES. Hope this helps.

I have been experiencing the issue with my BES services not starting after a reboot either. I simply have to manually restart the services. It does not matter if it is a normal reboot or a crash.

I am running BES 4.1.5.26 and the Exchange server is 2007, but is on a seperate box.

Did anyone find the culprit? Is this a bug that has a known fix?

I am going to be updating to 4.1.6MR3 soon and hope this fixes the issue as it never fails, this happens when I am not available to start the services.
