Question 8330 3g ?

Please Login to Remove!

Read on CNET that the CDMA 8330 from Sprint has a 3G chip inside. Does this mean that if/when Sprint gets 3G that my Curve will be supported?

Your Sprint Curve already has 3G. It just depends on your coverage. If you have EV-DO coverage, then you are on 3G.

Oh I guess you learn something everyday! I thought EV-DO and 3G were two different things. Because I had EV-DO on my 8703e but it was not 3G. Thanks.

Huh? EVDO is EVDO. It might not be the same revision of EVDO but all EVDO is considered 3G.

I guess the reason I thought EVDO was not 3g is because my 8703e had EVDO but did not have a 3G chip. My Curve on the other hand has EVDO and has a 3G chip. So if my 8703e did not have a 3G chip how was it 3G?

G just stands for generation of cell data technology.

2G GSM = EDGE
2G CDMA = 1xRTT

3G GSM = UMTS/HSDPA
3G CDMA = EVDO/EVDO Rev. A

4G = LTE/Wi-Max

If your 8703e had EVDO, it has a 3G chip by Qualcom. Just because it didn't say 3G chip on the box, doesn't mean it didn't have it. Don't believe marketing hype.

Thanks for the update. Was starting to get confused Have you heard anything about 4G Wi Max? I had heard Sprint was going to release it in a couple of areas and then read they were just going to pull the plug on it?
