Here we are - one week since the last post and God knows how long after the promised update... and still nothing...

I am curious now, what are the viable alternatives to viigo for Blackberry RSS reader?

I switched to FreeRange after not liking the Viigo beta. It's a very nice (stripped) RSS reader. It doesn't try to throw all the extra bloat at you.

From your mobile browser, go to http://mwap.at to install it or go to FreeRange Communications for more info.

As someone who's managed software development, I understand delays. What I don't understand is lack of communication.

The fact that they haven't even made an attempt to communicate, even to those in the private beta, indicates that they simply don't care or that there are very significant management issues at the company.

Anyway, I've always been happy with FreeRange. If you can deal with only 10 feeds, it's free. If you need more, yes, it's expensive. However... well... let's just say that it won't be this expensive for long. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that the changes afoot are based, in part, on Viigo. Is Tango fails, the FreeRange people might decide to keep their high pricing.

The main thing I love about FreeRange is that with some feeds I always want the entire article and I can have the full article automatically downloaded with each update.

Yeah, if nothing else, Viigo was another 'provider' and therefore, competition.

I have way more than 10 feeds at this point, but prior to finding Viigo, I had none... so I will try Freerange, whittle my number of feeds down to 10 and see what happens.

Ya gotta love the lack of communication, though... * shakes head in disbelief *

I've send a message to the company's CEO to see what's up. Based on the significant slippages and the non-existent communication, I have to assume that someone died or that the Viigo headquarters has burned down. (Not that I wish that to happen). Otherwise, Mark (the CEO) has some explaining to do.

I've just downgraded to the old version of Viigo, and it's still my favorite. It's extremely poor form for them to never update anyone in the beta program. At least send SOMETHING out telling us there's a delay, or to say "hi, we're listening". There's probably not too many people still using the beta at this point since it was so slow.

Nuclear attack on Canada? Ohhh, nevermind, you meant the CFL thingy in Viigo...

NO. It's another 'feature'... supposed to demonstrate what it can do IF they ever get around to releasing a new version or updating the beta.

Mark (the CEO) got back to me. The short answer is that they got busy. Very busy. Too busy to even write an e-mail to the private beta participants (much less everyone on their list) saying "we've busy and we're sorry for the delay." He promised to do better in communication.

I can't say much, but apparently the next beta will have a couple of new features in a vein similar to the CFL menu item.

Anyway, we'll see if they actually do better in communication.

And if the next beta, whenever it comes, is any better. (Memory issues apparently have topped the list)

I sure hope whatever is coming is stupidly huge; ground breaking, huge contracts, streaming coffee service... that type of thing. I assume they aren't doing manual emails to each person. Heck, I'd have settled for much less than "we've busy and we're sorry for the delay." "Busy. Update Coming." woulda been fine. They're lucky there's a few of us still around who like their product.

Truthfully, the CFL thing, the missing features, even the crappy memory hasn't bothered me much. It's a beta (though some developers may argue at the use of that word). I knew that going in. The silence however, is pretty annoying. If there was some unforseen crap internally, we don't need an explaination. We would however, rather have some communication in the mean time. We can live with the delays. We may not like it, but we'll stick around a lot longer if we know something is coming.

Come back soon!

I tried the beta for 2 days, maybe.. then downgraded to the old version. I like the old version just fine. There are some nice features in the beta, but you can't disable stuff that you don't want (hence the memory hog) and that is a no-no for me.

I'd be happy with a simple memory leak fix... I'm friggin tired of by call log getting deleted cause I have NO memory left! Deleted my messages once too somehow.

3.0.82 is actually up for download if you have access to the private beta. No notable changes though....maybe a little quicker.

Thanks! This is probably the first day in a month I haven't checked the link... Hope that massive leak is gone!

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

I am NOT in private beta. I thought they were going to release an update build for all at around July 31
