No, you must have their PIN for PIN messaging.

On BBMessenger, you can request to add a contact via their email, but it will communicate via PIN once accepted.

What's the advantage of using a PIN message vs e-mail or regular texting?

Advantages are subjective... but here's my 2 cents.

PIN messages are scrambled over the wireless network for security. (Can be encrypted if on BES)
PIN messages support delivery confirmation.
PIN messages use only the carrier's network and RIM's infrastructure so they will continue to function if your mail server and/or BES is unavailable.
PIN messages are typically delivered within seconds.
PIN messages use data, so there's no per-message charge as there might be for SMS.

Data package, not text.

It is quicker, in my experience, as well.

Not to mention the fact that Blackberry Messenger allows the sending of files and voice messages.

I've been able to retrieve BB PINs from using the looking function for anyone on our corporate BES.

Yes, you can "lookup" pins (not the messages) but the pins of other corporate users.

I love BBmessenger. I wish all my friends had a blackberry for that reason.

Being able to have an "always on" messenger style communication tool is awesome.

Plus if you don't have unlimited text messages, it's the way to go. Since it uses Data.

Default Blackberry server manager

If you have access to the BES console, all the pins are listed...
But, as was already said, you will not be able to strip out or see pin numbers unless the user gives them too you...

If you have a BB on a BES you can do a simple global lookup and see the pin for anyone who has a BB. I imagine the BES has to be setup for this.

I suppose you could do this in a corporate environment. (add the pins in the information) Using a pin, as was said, a good way to get a message through if your having problems with your server. We don't list pins in our GAL. (but for some company's this might be a good idea)...
