Yeah I use Jivetalk as well and wouldnt switch for any reason. But everyone has their own opinion. I personally never tried ECQ, Im might give it a spin to see how it is.

ECQ is free, it does: MSN, AIM, Yahoo, QQ, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber, and you can have them all open in one window.
It also sends cheap international texts and makes (supposedly) VoIP phonecalls, but uses your minutes so it's probably just one of those detour things.
