Default No GPS + Wi-Fi ?!?! True?

Please Login to Remove!

I called Rogers and was asking them about the Thunder, and the rep told me that they have every intention of carrying it when it's released. Is it true that the device won't have GPS or Wi-Fi in it, or has anyone else heard differently?

Chances are Verizon will cripple the GPS and charge for it as well...

This topic is about the Thunder, not the Storm. Nothing to do with Verizon.

My understanding was was the Storm was VZW's version of the Thunder.. I thought they are the same device but the Storm has VZW's custom OS on it.. is this incorrect?

Yes.
Storm is BlackBerry 9530... Thunder is 9500.
Different model numbers = Different device.

I suppose everything about it is speculative at this point, but yes, the current rumors are that the 9500 will be GSM only.

The 9500 IS GSM and can be used in the states, and on Rogers & AT&T's 3G network. ;)

Storm is both devices. Thunder is the internal name.

It's really too bad - you would think any new device should come with wifi and gps standard. Whether or not a carrier makes you subscribe to use the feature, RIM should consider wifi and gps to be minimum requirements these days.

It's not really up to RIM to make those decisions.
RIM manufactures the devices based on carrier needs/specifications.
Why would RIM build in functionality that the carrier wouldn't use or want?

Ok, so extend my comments to include the carriers. I would think wifi should be standard. Imagine buying a laptop without wifi... Should be standard on all bbs.

Disagree. Why add hardware and cost into manufacturing if the hardware will simply remain idle? It doesn't really benefit anyone.

Why the hardware will remain idle ? I disagree. There are many situations where there is no GSM, no 3G, an only wifi access. Not speaking about international roaming. I agree with kjjb0204. It should come with wifi as a standard now.
