I think I have isolated the problem! Data! After turning off the Data services, and reboot the device the clock icon will not appear. I did the same for 2G and 3G, and each time if Data is turned on the problem starts. You also just can't turn off Data after reboot if you have already selected it. You must deselect Data, and reboot.
But that doesn't solve the problem. What's the point of having a Blackberry without Data service?
I was trying to send a pic using TwitterBerry (beta 4) with the TwitPic function and somehow during sending, either it lost connection or it got corrupted, and ever since then the clock icon appeared. It seems like there was a "command" leftover for Data to send some data and when it could not find TwitterBerry (I deleted it as soon as the problem started as it was the last software I installed), it goes into this crazy cycle.
Is it just me or do I have this sneaking suspicion that the Bold isn't quite ready? I mean I read that Orange UK pulled it off the shelf demanding RIM sort it out before they start reselling it. I think I am going to be less adventurous with installing new software with the Bold. Unlike the Curve, I NEVER had any of this problems; and I think it all comes down to a stable OS in the Curve. The Bold? I can see why AT&T is taking so long to launch it. I just hope this is a software and not an inherent hardware problem.
