So the wipe wouldn't give me the fresh factory install with all BT services again? I actually have the 4.1 OS downloaded directly from BlackBerry and not Sprint/Nextel.

I'm just asking this as to make sure that we're on the same page. I don't have to be on BES, I just choose to be. At this point I want to wipe it clean and then "choose" to not use BES. I'd much rather have my BT services.

Thanks again for the help.
Here is the skinny fact:

The 2 policies are available and enabled for out of the box handhelds. Therefore, using this on a BIS or Web Client will work, as they do not enforce policies like the BES enviornment does.

Since these 2 policies are not recognized on the BES until SP3, they are removed once the IT Policy is applied after activation. Recommended solution is to wait until SP3 is out (week or so) and set both policies under BT to Flase.

PS. Trying to force them now through ITPolicy.exe will not work, as I tried and the application does not recognize the two commands.

Also, a full backup out of the box would not backup/restore an IT Policy after it was applied.

acm, you have to have BT installed with Microsoft BT manager not your BT hardware manufacturer's software. This is documented by RIM.

DSS, search for policy.bin on here - there should be a few threads, although you most likely still have to wait for someone who can provide you with the file to be on BES 4.0.3 before those options will be re-enabled. either that, or you could simply request it to be replaced by NXTL. the latter may be the easiest.

Yeah, thanks again jibi. I was just telling my friend the same thing. Looks like I'll be callin' up Nextel to exchange the phone. Ha, ha. I will do that search you suggested though.

ehickcox - my desktop manager version is 4.1.0.8 (Aug 18 2005).

jibi - Thanks! I did read that in the RIM site but ehickcox seemed to connect using 3rd party dirver? I am trying to avoid the work of unstalling software and changing the way the Dell was factory configured. Also, I already have my GSM cell phone's BT profile setup with the My BT Places and that was one hour on the phone with teck support with T-Mobile.

Thanks to all - ACM

Jibi is right tho, you will definatly have better luck with your bluetooth devices using the Generic Bluetooth Radio driver. its worth a shot. i am in fact using the DLINK driver but i know that there was alot of screwing with to even get it to work with my Ipaq, but since i have not had a problem

jnelson, i just had a look at the policy stuff included with SP3, but i'm not seeing anything new. the keywords.txt file does not have anything about Bluetooth or BT in it, and neither does the policy.inf that came with it. i wish i could say that i could toy around with it some, but i honestly have no way of testing.

if you want, you can try adding the following to your policy.inf file and see if it works... just a try, though.

DisableDesktopConnectivity = false
DisableAddressBookTransfer = false
DisableWirelessBypass = false

you will also have to add the following to the keywords.txt file:

DisableDesktopConnectivity,bool
DisableAddressBookTransfer,bool
DisableWirelessBypass,bool

also, just to note... after you do this, your BES will most likely throw up a status for the IT Policy as Error. your administrators will most likely notice this at some point. in other words, its a bad idea if it violates your security policy at work.

...this is why you shouldn't post it on the forum, so please remove at some point soon. we have taken the stance to not have a direct link on the website. hope you understand.

You let me know. I cannot afford to mess with myevice right now. I can't remove my account from my BES because I am traveling.

You try and let us know. It will not do any harm. Just remember to do a wipe first and don't accessiate with your BES.

DSS, the ITPolicy.exe used to generate the files is OLD. therefore, its not new. in other words, adding newer functionality may or may not work. so, you get to be guinea pig, if you want. the values above come from the simply putting the policy title together as one expression, which is what most of the other policy items were done for the original policy.inf file - such as Allow Browser became AllowBrowser. its not anywhere near rocket science and may or may not work.

Jibi,

Just tried it on a co-workers 7100i. It does not work. Need to wait until SP3 is released.

Mine has both those listed in the Bluetooth Options screen.

**Sorry, didn't see this was already addressed.
