Default Did anyone get their phone from the developer conference?

Please Login to Remove!

I attended the BlackBerry Developer Conference in Santa Clara last month and I'm starting to wonder when I'll get the phone I signed up to receive. They were giving away Verizon Storms or unlocked Bolds to every attendee. Some people got their Bolds on the spot, but they ran out and most people were told that their Bold would ship out in four weeks. I haven't got mine yet. Anybody else?

I was told that the Storm would not be released to us until Verizon's launch date + 30 days.

Bah really? That's not a good way to treat developers. You're supposed to get them the platform *before* it ships, not a month later.

Speak of the devil. I just got this email from RIM:

Quote:
We would like to send you an update on the BlackBerry Bold that you are to receive from the giveaway at the BlackBerry Developer Conference. We have had a delay on our internal order, but wexxx8217;ll be able to ship your new smartphone in early December.

We apologize for the delay, but please rest assured that your BlackBerry Bold will be on its way soon.
Hopefully this is just a reflection of strong market demand, and not production issues.

How are you going to use it on T-Mo anyway?

Reading about the high demand at Verizon, I think that's the only issue - I know that it was extremely hard for press people (even a major network guy I know) to get a Storm from either RIM or Verizon as recently as yesterday.

I hit the local Verizon store at 12:30 Friday, but they were already out of phones. Apparently, they made a conservative inventory buy for the release.

The Bold does work on T-Mobile and the ones given away at the Dev Conference were unlocked and unbranded.

Hmmm... as was the Bold I got before the DevCon (I was a judge and supposed to be on a panel, but a home septic tank collapse kept me from going).

But putting a phone as sweet as a Bold on a service as (your adjective here) as T-Mo seems somehow disrespectful, so mine is staying on AT&T.

Your Storm, though, might make sense on T-Mo - given that it was released for Verizon, I would keep a close eye on service book issues.

And there's a $20 "accessory" you may want to consider for the Storm - the Dirt Devil Detailer - a small vacuum about the size of a cordless screwdriver that should be good for cleaning the gap that happens when you click the screen in.
