The GSM Javelin specs are similar but it has a different processor and includes Wi-Fi.

So does this mean Verizon is getting UMA. Not that I know much about these things but given they turned down the iPhone it seems likely they have an aversion to wi-fi.

Does anyone have the definitive insight into how carriers will use wi-fi? I'd have thought it was like stabbing a knife through your own heart for them assuming someone comes up with a VOIP option for BB.

I heard the Verizon problem with the i phone was that their "authorized dealers", non company owned stores, would not be allowed to sell it and that is why they decided they had to pass.

Wifi can be implemented without UMA. Although it's nice to have it isn't imperative.

I am contemplating on doing the same thing. I assume that will not be an issue for VZW. Correct?

No reason to be sorry, I would love to see a CDMA Rev A BlackBerry with WiFi. Where are you finding this information? Most of the respected BlackBerry sites are reporting that the GSM Javelin will include WiFi, but the CDMA Niagara will not. Though there was an article on RIMarkable on October 6th that said the Niagara would include WiFi. I sure hope that your source is correct!

I'm also curious about the GSM capability (that is, if there is any).

Maybe I'm really off base here, but since the Storm appears to have unlocked GPS do you believe they did that because it is being sold as a "world" phone, or because they are listening to customers? I only ask because so far the Curve has not been enabled, and this might be a hint as to whether the next future BB will have GPS enabled as well. GPS is important to me, more so than GSM. But if the only phones that will be activated have to be world phones...well that's something to think about. I hate to think the only GPS enabled phone Verizon will have on their network for the next 2 years is a touch screen. Doesn't leave any options for someone that can't adjust to touchscreen.

I do agree with a prior poster though...that's going to be a er...solid...phone if it has all that. Possibly a weapon in heft....
