Strange icon when on 8320 phone

When I receive or make a phone call I'm getting a strange looking icon on the right hand side of my lcd. It looks like a set of steps or stairs! It didn't do it until I was fooling around with my settings getting my gps. Which I finally got working. I just noticed it when I got to my girlfriends house where my t-mobile signal is weak as hell to begin with. Does any one know what it is and is it hurting my reception. Thanks in advance Jimmy
