Yeah, sure. Just hold down the P key and it will ask you if you want to assign a speed dial to that key.

Don't turn it off!!!!! Who needs speed dial when you can type the first 2 letters and call the person

You can speed dial...but it is slightly different. On my curve, every letter could be assigned. On the Bold, you cannot assign Q and A as they are pre-assigned (and can't be changed that I know of) On my Bold, the Q is assigned to change the ringer profile (which makes no sense to me) and the A is assigned to the keyboard lock.
Has anyone else found this to be the case?
