2 months ago my wife dropped her curve into some water. Immediately the phone was taken out, battery removed, and I took off as many parts that were easily accessable, and dried it out with a hair drying for 15mins or so. I then left a fan blowing on the unit over night. Fired up the unit the next morning, and everything worked perfectly, and has worked perfectly for the past 2 months. I am adding this to give as much info as possible, maybe someone could use it to help diagnose the problem.

Just recently (2 weeks ago) the phone started intermittanly turning off, and there was alot of static in the background when speaking with people. Odd, but you could just turn it back on, no problem. Then it started turning off, and wouldn't turn back on for a while (maybe an hour or 2 later). Now, it turned off, and won't turn on at all. Took it to an AT&T store, and tried a new battery to no avail. Then all of a sudden, last night it fired up like nothing was wrong, but when the battery was removed to put the SIM card in, it wouldn't turn on.

Anybody have ANY ideas on how to fix this, or have heard of this issue before? I plan on taking it apart per the instructions in the sticky, and looking at the board and circuitry to see if there is anything loose in there. Other than that, I'm lost...

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, the effects of water damage sometimes don't surface immediately. It sounds like you did all of the right things to dry the Curve out, but often liquid can get trapped internally, and move to areas where it can do damage over the course of time.

If you are planning to tear the device down to component level anyway, check the boards for corrosion or "rust". The presence of corrosion would validate that you have water damage internally.

Took it apart, and while I was taking it apart it turned on. I knew immediately there was a bad connection somewhere, more than likely with power getting to the motherboard.

I looked at the pads on the mother board and found one was not making perfectly centered connection. You could tell by the wear marks.

This is the pad, closest to me. You can see the off center wear marks:

These are the connectors, I just centered the last one, and made sure it hit center. Fired right up!

I was about to suggest your solution...my wife did the same thing when she had her razr...I had the entier thing apart after it started randomly turnning off and such...here the phone on the power to board port had corrosion forming on it...a little rubbing alcohol (SP) and it worked for another year before we replaced it with a new one.
