Default Nextel 8350i review

Please Login to Remove!

I have been reviewing and troubleshooting the new Nextel 8350i since its release in early December. The phone seems to be a great phone with some quarks. I wanted to post a thread for all to discus their experiences with the phone. Here is my review of the handset for reference: XionXolu

There are approximately 3.9 million threads in this forum discussing people's experiences with this phone... I don't see the point in another.

I have the opportunity to upgrade to the 8350i but not sure now because of what I've read. Wifi and MMS might not be worth the aggravation. Thoughts anyone?

TurnKey, what are you coming from? In my opinion I would probably wait a week or so, to let some of the mms and provision issues clear up. The 128mb is great for extra storage is great. Direct connect with auto direct send works well. If your looking for a business pda with walkie talkie it's great. If your looking for a fun media phone, you may wanna wait.

I just got the 8330 this week but have the 30 day period to exchange it. I really miss the MMS capability of my other phone and wifi seems useful, but those appear to be the only differences between the 8330 and 8350i and I wouldn't use the direct connect.

However, I was sending pics back and forth from my phone and my wife's and hers doesn't appear to work with MMS either (Samsung Rant). I was able to send an email to my brother (his#@mms.att.net) and that worked.

My only complaint is the time it takes to navigate to picture mail... I guess I just talked myself out of upgrading...

I have the 8330 (personal) and 8350i (work) right now. As much as I like the features in the OS 4.6 on my 8350i, I'd still rather have my 8330 on OS 4.5. Nextel service isnt great in my area.

Nextel service in Chicago is decent, but there are a few dead spots. The other thing that made me contemplate the change is my work installed repeaters for the bosses' BBs so I would get a full signal inside the building (I don't with Sprint and it barely works if at all).

Thanks for the reply.

There is a software patch for the rant ti fix the picture mail issue if I is on the rant side. You can go to setting/data/update profile and it may pull it down.

As far as the picture mail, you can send pics as email to sprint phones via 10digitnumber@pm.sprint.com. I can provide the mms address for most of the more popular carriers.

About reception. Sprint offers an AirRave fimtocell that will increase CDMA reception in about a 5000sqft area. It does require a highspeed internet connection. The device is $100 up front and a bout $6 per month.

On a side note. I have gone back to my 8330. Many random service book deletions, bt issues and audio issues. I think once an OS revision is posted it will be a great handset. The main thing I miss going back is the 128mb of ram.

I figured out the mms email through trial and error. It's just an inconvienience to go through the prompts for picture mail, but it sounds like it's not worth the switch given the other reported problems with the 8350.

I should keep this in perspective; I'll only have this phone until the next upgrade, and there could be an update that adds mms eventually. I can deal with it.

Thanks
