Default BPS and Exchange Public Folders

Please Login to Remove!

I am a newbie to the BPS server so please bear with me. I have installed BPS 4.1.4.17 and have also installed 2 user CALs. I am also running Exchange 2003 SP2

I was able to sucessfully activate both phones through Enterprise Activation. The phones can recieve and send Exchange email.

My question is, the users do not use their personal calendar's or personal contacts. They use a departmental shared calendar and shared contacts located in Exchange's Public Folders. Is there a way to wirelessly sync those shared contacts/calendar in the Public Folders to their BB phones? They do not want to sync locally via USB cable.

Is this something I could setup on the BPS server?

BES does not do this natively.

For the contacts, you can use M$ OPCS to sync public folder contacts with Outlook contacts

one click and it syncs.

Download details: Outlook 2002 Add-in: Pocket Contact Synchronizer 1.2

We are running Outlook 2003 and it looks like that app has issues with 2003. Workarounds are modifying the registry and such.

Are there no other ways to wirelessly sync a shared calendar or shared contacts under Public Folders to a BB phone?

3rd party apps can do it.
Be prepared for the cost.

I can't wait to tell the department heads they have to shell out $99.99 for a BPS CAL, shell out $$ for their phone and data plan and shell out $$ for a 3rd part app just to sync Public Folders. Awesome.

I don't know what BPS is...does it support using the BlackBerry Browser to browse the local intranet, and if so does it support http authentication?

If it does, you could just give them the URL of the Public Folders and let them browse the folders. No synch, but they would see the content in real time.

If BPS doesn't do http authentication, could you make access to the folders open to Anonymous?

Yea, Prosessional Server...can support up to 30 users.

I cannot give that departmental Calendar and Contacts in the Public folders anonymous rights as the contents are confidential.

BPS is very much the same as BES, except you are limited to 30 CALS, it's service packs have stopped at SP4, and can only run 1 server with BPS in a domain. There are other minor limitations eg: no MS Communicator. It event has the same install folder path as BES, the Program Folder is called "Blackberry Enterprise Server".
And yes BPS does have MDS Connection Service.
