Default best way to create a web app?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

What would be the best way to create a web app for BB? Should i just create a regular web page w/ the size restrictions in mind and use the browser? Or should i take the java (ide) route and create an app that way?

Btw - looks do matter to me - so i'd like content to be rather compelling.

Thanks.

i would say it depends on your target group. on older devices the browser is not very potent (most devices can run 4.5 though) and even on the new ones javascript makes the browser uncomfortable.
you can easily design a nice-looking app using css though - but it needs some testing on different devices i would say.

developing a java app is not too hard, make it good looking very much so. the native rim UI is quite desastrous. everytime you compare it to the iphone or android a kitten dies, be careful.

depending on the scope of the project you can make a java app a lot more neat, take a look at the bigger players in the software department, especially at the media applications. but they most likely use self-developed libraries (as i do) and it is a lot of headstart to get this far.

hey simon.hain thx for the quick reply. Im very confused about java apps and webpages. If i create a web page (using html, java script, whatever), can i embed that page in my java application? I tried searching for tutorials or docs on this but i couldn't find any. Basically im confused about how a java app will deal with a web page - what i understand right now is that it simply points to the webpage and loads it in the browser. But i don't get where the web design part comes in.

Thx.

opening a webpage in the default browser is the easiest way to display it - but not the only one.
take a look at the browserfield demo provided with the JDE.
the knowledge base is also a good resource.
