Default BB DM and device not recognized.

Please Login to Remove!

I have Windows XP Pro 2002 and we have just upgraded to Service Pack 3. When connecting my device and booting up DM, it does not recognize it.

I have;

DM 4.3.0.17
bb 8330 Curve v.4.5.0.77(plat 3.2.0.51)

I have done a full uninstall/reinstall of DM and it still does not recognize the device. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Does the computer make any indication that the BlackBerry was plugged in? Does the BlackBerry show it's charging when plugged in?

Go to Start -> Run type in "devmgmt.msc" it will bring up the device manager, leave that window open plug in your BlackBerry the Device Manager should refresh itself when you plug it in.. If does under USB you should see an entry entitle "BlackBerry" or "RIM".. If you see any thing like "Unknown Device" or any exclamation post back here.

It's most likely a driver issue, and a re-install/repair of the Desktop manager will fix this.

You mention DM but did you install the BB driver for your 8330?

The driver is included in the DM, granted they do have a seperate download for those selected people that do not want to install the Desktop Manager.

When I plug the device into the computer it shows the plug icon for about 2 seconds like it's charging then it disappears. When I ran the command to bring up the device manager, it did not recognize the device even being plugged in. I installed the lastest DM software to 4.7 and got the same thing. So then I uninstalled and reinstalled back down to 4.3 and still the same results. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The 8330 has had issues like this in the past. Try rebooting the BB AND the pc and try again.

When you ran the command for the device manager and you plugged the BlackBerry in, did you notice it refresh/rescan, see anything entitles RIM/BlackBerry/etc, or notice any question marks, exlcamation marks?

No, the device mgr just stayed the same. I even went though the different devices just to see if it was hidden. I may try a full uninstall again, just to make sure one last time. I'll let you know if anything changes. As stated this problem only started happening once they upgraded our laptops to SP3.

Since the device manager does refresh or even try to then this could be a hardware issue, do you have a second computer to try this with?

I would uninstall it and try a different version. (4.5 isn't that bad)

Wirelessly posted

Wierd, do normal USB devices (like thumb drives) work in your USB ports?

Have you ran a windows update recently to make sure your system is up to date?

Yes everything else works, mouse, keyboard, thumbdrives all of that good stuff. For some reason when I plug the blackberry in the little plug icon on the device shows for about 2 seconds then disappears. I have backed DM all the way back down to 4.2.2.14 and still no luck.

Post My Device Manager is refrehing automatically after I attach blackberry.

I am having strange problem with my blackberry 8707g. I am not able to connect to Desktop manager. I've tried using different version of desktop manager and used the device in different computer but the same thing is happening. whenever I connect my blackberry to the computer which has desktop manager (any version) My Device Manager is refrehing automatically.

My desktop manager detects the device for few seconds and again it disappears from the dm.

Kindly help me out with this problem as I am very frustrated because of this.

I had similar problem today for the first time. I am on Vista and they upgrade me all the time so I thought it might be that. The computer did not recognize the BB in any way and the BB just showed the little black pulg for a couple seconds and then it went away. But after powering off the computer and the phone, I had to remove the battery from the blackberry - just powering it off did not do it. After that I got it to work, although my connection seemed tenious - when I moved the phone the connection came in and out. Before I took out the battery I got nothing. Definitly remove the battery before you try anything else!

Are you able to plug the Media Card into your computer via a card reader or no? I want to remove the BB from the equation.
