I am new to most of the apps and see some that some use your GPS functionality. I am wondering, do you have to have any type of subscription to use the GPS functionality? I know for Verizon based apps like navigator you do, but I am talk 3rd part like Loopt or similar styles.......

In other words, is data relayed using the GPS (non subscribed services) free with the Verizon Blackberry service?

Look at our GPS Mapping section, in the Sticky Notes at the top of the All Known GPS apps thread. Good stuff.

GPS data transmission does not normally rely on subscription to a certain service, however in the Verizon case, on the Storm, there are mixed results, some get GPS unlocked, some don't.
