Default Error backing up Storm 9500

Please Login to Remove!

Hi. Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find a thread. When I use my Blackberry Desktop Manager to backup my 9500 Storm, it works for a while (until the horizontal bar gets about 1/3rd way across the bottom bar), then I get an error message; Error backing up database(s). It happens at 'address book options.' I've tried several permutations in backup options but can't get a full backup. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

Mikedk,

I encountered this very same problem when trying to back up my Storm before uploading a new OS. Mine stopped every time when backing up the Smart Card. Taking out my memory card, restarting the computer, and rebooting the phone did not change anything.

I found this to be specific to my phone. I was able to back up a friend's Storm on the same computer without a hitch.

In my case, I rolled the dice and upgraded my OS anyway. The OS upgrade went fine and at the end the upgrade program informed me, as I expected, that there was an error in backing up my files. But the DM software still saved all my files and settings to my documents file. When I ran the DM restore utility I got everything back. Whew!!!

I have not yet tried to back up my files since the upgrade. Maybe it might work. I will try and report back.

Ok,

I had some spare moments so I plugged up the Blackberry and ran the backup program. SUCCESS! It ran fine.

In my case, my error was occurring running OS .99. I am now running OS .103 and the backup ran without a hitch. Glad you made this post!

What OS are you running? If you can upgrade, I suggest doing what I did. You should still be able to restore the files after the upgrade when you run the restore utility.

Let me know how it goes for you. I am curious. If it works, I am once again a humble and useful servant of Blackberry Forums.... ;)

Thanks for the info XelhaBB. I'm on OS v4.7.0.78 (Platform 4.0.0.98). I'll find the O.S. upgrade and see what happens; I assume it will be on the BB website.

Oops, I'm having some difficulty finding a version 103 download. Is the Storm 9500 the same as the Storm 9530?

When you get an error back up like that go to the internet browser and clear the cache and history.....after that it should work. It did that to me for a quick little second. Try it out and see if it works!

Thanks jstewartjr85 for the suggestion. I cleared out the history and cache on the Storm, and the backup worked!

This Forum is amazing!!! What would I do without the knowledge of you all??? I had this exact problem, and once again, a quick search of the forums led me to my answer.

I only hope to be able to help one day as well!!!

Thanks!!!

J. Stewart,

great idea. I bet the fresh install cleared my history and cache.

Congrats on the intuitive approach!
