anyone here using bold without screen protection?
Please Login to Remove!
im considering getting bold (i got money already) but everyone says that its very hard to keep it without scratches unless using case or protection for it. i really cant use any of those things (especially the case). i had my 8310 for long time and the screen still looks great. so i need some feedback

Ive had mine almost 2 months now, and its not scratched at all. no screen protection.
only put it in the holster that came with it whenever going out, so it doesnt get scratched in my bag.

I'm 5 months unprotected with no scratches at all. I do put it in a belt case or pouch before pocketing. I'd say the screen is quite tough.

id say as long as your not rubbing your keys up and down the screen for hours, its gonna be fine.

Not as far as I know.THe screen that came with it, are you talking about the thin piece of plastic that covers the screen, same with the camera on the back? and same with almost all phones and electronics with any kind of screen?

Four months and no problem. I keep it in my holster and only pull out when I need to. No scratches or anything so far.

Yuo can get a pack of screen protectors from walmart for 5 bucks and just cut them to fit. If your going to spend about 300 on a phone or more why not spend the extra 5? They don't add any bulk

I've tried several brands of screen protectors...with the most recent one being the ZAGG Invisibleshield screen protector, and after a month of putting up with a blurry screen and having to clean all the excess face/skin-sludge off of it every 20-minutes...I've removed it altogether. Good riddance!!
I had forgotten how bright and clear the Bold screen is... and the "naked" screen doesn't attract skin oil and funk anymore. I keep my Bold in the OEM belt-clip holster when not in use normally anyway...so I doubt screen scratches will ever be an issue at all.

I've had the bold now for more than 4 months, use heavily - holster when not in use - and without any screen protection. It's always on my belt, and I have dropped it on hard surfaces a few times. Not a scratch so far.
Of course if you drop it, I guess it just depends on what it lands on. I have a iPod Touch that was in a bag for one trip and now has a nice chip right in the center of the screen.

i have it since August with a screen protector, only for the reason that my other bb, 7100r screen had numerous scratches on it almost like line scratches from constantly removing it from the case

No need for screen protectors. Mine gave me some wavey texture like water and I took it out. Looks so much nicer without it. No scratches so far, it's been a month.

No screen protector here. Got my Bold the day it came out. Keep it in my pocket either alone or maybe with a pack of gum and it is coming in and out hundreds of times a day without any scratches.
I really hate having those plastic screen protectors on and the Bold does not need it. I think it is like keeping a plastic coating on your sofa. Sure you may have a sofa with fabric looking just as good as the day you bought it 30 years from now, but I don't plan on keeping my sofa for more than 7-10 years and I don't plan on keeping my bold more than 18 to 24 months.

Using an expensive device like the Bold without screen protection is like driving a vehicle without insurance IMO. You don't have because you expect anything to happen, but just in case something does. You should note that most of the respondants above state they use a case of some sort; I do not recommend keeping it your pocket unprotected. Besides scratches, you may also face problems down the road with lint, etc. getting in and under the trackball. These things are not cheap and should be protected; that's my 2 cents anyway.
For clarity, you can find some decent screen protectors; I use one that was left over from my plam devices and I hardly even know its there (an actually palm brand screen protector, not third party).

I keep mine in my pocket and use a screen protector. I'm not looking to keep my phone in new out of the box condition, however, a scratch on the screen is the most annoying bump/scratch you'll get. I do agree with the post above that without it, the screen is better but the invisishield is good enough for me.
I had a pocketpc phone with a scratched screen and it was like my eye was constantly drawn to that scratch.
