Default WAP setup on 8320, Orange UK, complete newb.

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all, I tried searching for the answer to my Blackberry problem but I'm afraid that a lot of this stuff is Greek to me.

I just got my Blackberry 8320 today on Orange. Everytime I try to go to a website using the browser it says "This is a Wi-Fi service. Please ensure your device has an active Wi-Fi connection and try again."

But the problem is, I want to connect to the internet using WAP - like I used to on my old Ericssons on Orange. I rang Orange directly and they sent some sort of SMS update, but I am still getting the message.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

This is all assuming your BB services are set up properly on their end:

On your BB, go into Settings>Options>Advanced Options>Browser. What is the default browser set to? It might just be stuck on Hotspot or Wi-Fi browser, hence the error. Change the default Browser to which ever options are available, then try browsing.

The only option I have on the Default Browser settings is 'Hotspot Browser'. I received the text with the updates and just rang Orange again. They said it can take up to 24 hours for the WAP settings to become apparent on the phone. Presumably when the WAP takes effect on the BB then I will have a choice of different Browser settings?

Yes, you will either have "Blackberry Browser", "Internet Browser", or "WAP Browser" once the correct services are pushed to the phone. Don't hold me to those specific options though, I am not familiar with BB on foreign carriers.

No problem, thanks very much for your help! I always get a little anxious when I get a new phone and I've been wanting a Blackberry for a while - you've put my mind to rest!
