Unhappy BIS 2.6 + GMail IMAP Changes

Please Login to Remove!

Ok. I have replied to a few posts mentioning some of the issues that I'm having, but i'm going to start a fresh post on the subject.

With BIS 2.6 on AT&T with GMail I am noticing the following issues. Can someone please give me some feedback if they have either found a work-around, or at least if they are having the same issues.

1. With the "Advanced IMAP Options" enabled in the GMail settings page, "Auto Expunge" set to "Do not automatically expunge messages", and "When a message is expunged from the last visible IMAP folder:" set to "Archive the message", when deleting a message on my device with delete on "Mailbox and Handheld", GMail's copy is immediately moved to the "Trash" not to "All Mail".

This is a problem. This means that I will now have to manually go into my gmail inbox and archive all the emails that I dont want to stay there. Before, I would use the "Delete on Mailbox and Handheld" to move the message to "All Mail" if it did not require a follow-up, that way only the messages that needed more attention would stay in my Inbox.

2. After archiving GMail's copy in the web interface, if I receive a reply to the message, I get 2 emails on the blackberry, and so on. Consider people who use the blackberry forums. I got a reply to an old thread that I started, and had almost 45 posts, therefore 45 post notification emails. I had archived all of these previously. When I got that reply last night, 46 emails showed up in my inbox. Is anyone else seeing this?

Thanks!

Ok. It looks like item 2 above was just a glitch between BIS and GMail, because I cant re-produce the error.

Item 1 above is still a real concern of mine. Blackberrys are supposed to make our lives more efficient, this upgrade to 2.6 has made mine wasteful.

No one else is having this problem?
I've been going nuts trying different set ups to try and have my deleted BB items get archived on gmail and not trashed.

I've had problem #1 since forever -- I've never been able to get Gmail to send my deleted mails to "all" -- not before 2.6 or after.

They all wind up in the trash.

And after doing a decent amount of searching I came to the conclusion that was just the way Gmail worked on BlackBerry (aka - poorly).

With the new BIS I hoped this would of improved, especially with the new advanced IMAP functions on gmail which *apparently* will send deleted IMAP items to archive and not trash.

Looks like we're the only 3 people that care about this, which I find hard to believe.

I believe it's because BIS 2.6 allows the BB to move emails directly to Trash. It no longer goes through the IMAP/Trash folder. For that reason, it doesn't matter what settings you apply through the gmail labs Imap settings. Same for Imap/Sent folders.

Have you tried setting up your email the old way? ie. recreate your gmail account on BIS but don't type your password & enter the server info manually. This advice worked for some people who had lost their gmail filter functionality under the 2.6 setup. Adding the account the old way solved their problems.

Cheers.

I just noticed something interesting. I accidently hit the "i" key, which, when on BES "files" messages in exchange. I hit "i", and a few folders came up. Inbox, and Spam.

Has IMAP on BIS always allowed users to "File" messages in this way? None of my other tags are available, but it looks like we might finally be able to classify things as spam. The unfortunate thing, is that i move messages to "All Mail" far more often than a spam message makes it into my inbox.

Just noticed another issue. The facebook app automatically deletes to the trash as well, although there is a way around that.

Default IMAP Issues

I think I may have found a solution. In settings, under Labels, uncheck Show in IMAP for trash. Give that a try.

looks like that stops them from being moved to trash, but i believe for me they are staying in the Inbox. Is this what you are seeing as well?

I never realized it was moving the messages to trash, I was assuming they were remaining in All Mail. So where do you change the setting to make it archive to All Mail?

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000 (AT&T))

nextboy88's post above will at least stop the messages from getting deleted. They will, however, remain in the inbox until you manually archive them from either the GMail app or from the web.

Well, you have to have IMAP enabled on the GMail website. Then in the GMail wevsite you follow his directions.

Hold on, I just found the labs thing....

You also need the advanced imap settings enabled in Labs.

Okay, just tried Nextboys suggestion. Even when deleting on the BB from both server and device, the email remains in the inbox. If I wanted that I would just choose delete only from device. I am gonna change it back, at least that way it deletes it out of the inbox if its junk.
