With the upgrade to 7.2Mbps HSDPA for AT&T would this be possible to reach with the Bold? Will this require an update to the OS? Or is this hardware related, therefore cannot be achieved with the current Bold?

Technically speaking, the Bold is already HSDPA-network compatible. . . Hitting 7.2 Mbps would then be dependent on the available bandwidth. . .

Ofcourse, OS tweaking my be needed as HSDPA service comes online.

Given that relative limitation, just how much of a difference would a user potentially see going from 3.6 to 7.2 anyway? I'm just wondering.

For on device usage, little to no difference. The processor and software are why pages take so long to render, not the download speed.

But for tethering the difference would be quite noticable.

That's a good point. A doubling in bandwidth wouldn't be noticeable on page downloads anyway however you may notice it on longer downloads / video streaming (less buffering) etc.

BOLD limited HSDPA up to 3.6 MBPS, but if using speedtest on device, i never have HSDPA just UMTS. i don't know why.
