I have a small office with five users running Small Business Server 2008 which is a 64-bit operating system and has Exchange Server 2007. Will BES 5 install on this box or do I need a 32-bit box?
BES 5 is not supported to be installed on the same server as the messaging platform, such as Small Business Server.
You'd need a separate server for BES 5 and its components.

Yes - thus my caveat. Alternatively of course, you can setup a VM on the same box as Exchange '07 and house the BES on the VM...
I have 1 BES - 4.1.6 MR5 which is Virtual (VMware ESX 3.5)
Also have this on Win 2003 Enterprise Ed.
3 separate Exchange 2007 servers (also virtual)
1 remote SQL 2005 DB
I am looking to get this installed on Server 2008 64bit using one of the upgrade methods described in the documentation
Can anyone comment on whether RIM has written the 5.0 installer in 64bit code or is it actually wrapped over 32bit code?
My VMware infrastructure guy is asking this because he believes a 64-bit box will work harder with code that was NOT natively written for 64-bit h/w.
Off-topic, but since you running SBS 2008 I gotta ask:
SBS 2003 does not have a repair option like Server 2003 has. Lets say you corrupted some minor files and the server wont boot. With Server 2003 you pop in the CD and press R to repair it and it copies over all the OS files. SBS 2003 requires a reinstall wiping out your Active Directory thus killing any connection you have with the Exchange 2003 database...unless you have a good backup.
BES 5.0 running on Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64 my calendar would not reconcile. Same install, same AD on Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 the calendar worked perfectly. This could be coincidence because of something else that changed in my organization at the time but I would suggest against it. Other posters have already noted that BES is unlikely to take advantage of this. If you really want better speed BES 5.0 has HA capabilities which could help in your load balancing.
