Question 7100i and SMS

Please Login to Remove!

Just wondering if anyone had any luck reverting back to SMS from MMS, I am having too many issues with MMS so I would like to switch back. However I just called BB CS and they said it only can send out thru MMS (oddly enough I do not believe them).

I thought 7100i only supports MMS. Thats all that shows up as an option. Now you have me curious.

Yes they did, what do you think the 7520 and 7510 had? Also all the older phones from the i730 on used SMS over MMS. Yes MMS is the future, but since a lot of others have not catched on to it, it gets a hang up thru there servers.

While the previous Nextel BB's could receive SMS they could not send. The 7100 is the only model that can send text messages and MMS is the platform.

I had nextel switch me back to a text messaging plan (giving that second thoughts now, but whatever). It took them a minute to look, but they found it it, and that was only the second day the phone was out. I'm still not sure if I'm being billed right. MMS is gone and "text messaging" has been added, but the phone menu options only say "Send MMS" so not sure what format it's really going out in...

Additional services
Text Msg 500 First Month Free
Unltd Blackberry Email and Web
Nextel Service Plan
Unlimited Night & Wknd Minutes

If you had Text Messaging added you have the SMS plan. The device will still send outbound MMS messages which you will be chraged for @ $0.25 per message. It is not possible to send an outbound SMS message.

I have the unlimited txt plan (indirect dealer), so I am aware of that I did want it to say SMS not MMS so I will just give up on it.

This is correct! The only way you could get close to sending a SMS off a 7510 or 7520 was to send it via email to someones carrier email...they recieve as a text.....you can recieve text but not send.

i stand by what i said earlier in this thread. and thanks to those who explained it. Nextel never had SMS (nextel phones could not send SMS messages, also you couldnt see who they came from) MMS is new and works just like sms with the added capability for MultiMedia built in. for those still needing to send SMS from the Nextel BB's try doing a search for SMS email addresses

I know we could never send them but i was always able to receive SMS on my 7520. Now with the 7100i the message gets kicked back to the sender undelivered.

Make certain you don't have the SMS or 2Way Messaging codes on your Blackberry. By default the unit suuports MMS and if you have either other code you will not receive messages. Found this out the hard way with a standard Motorola phone on the iDEN system as well.

And I am still gonna tell you that the older phones do in fact use SMS, i90c, i95cl, i58sr, i710, i730, and etc.

I never argued that fact. The phones you listed supported SMS and 2way messaging.

The 7100i is only available on Nextel. Based on what I've read in other SMS+7100i threads you might have to call Nextel to enable this option.

You bet I did!

There is in fact a SMS hack for the older NXTL phones thru a CP mod to allow true SMS on them. So there is no need to sign on to the web and all, I have the service center number and all.
