I'm looking at BB Bolds on ebay, but I'm currently not an ATT customer. If I bought a BB off ebay and just kept the phone until my current contract expires w/alltel and then just went to ATT, activated the phone and signed up for a plan, would that make any sense? Then I don't have to purchase the phone from ATT...does that sound like it would save any $?

No, it makes no sense at all.
If you're going to AT&T as a new customer, you'll not only get a brand new Bold for less money than you'll pay on eBay... but it will also come with a warranty.

True penguin however if he owns device already he can get set up with no contract. Otherwise if op is going to att anyway and doesn't mind contract then a waste of time

would tend to agree with Penguin though. E-Bay - you have NO clue what you are getting. AT&T you know what you are getting AND there is a warranty.

Who said that if u buy a the bold from ebay it's not gonna be covered under at&t warranty, i have purchased mine from ebay and i have exchanged already for a replacement one with no hassle.

But even if you get a Bold, you are still looking at going through a credit check to get a line with AT&T, which they have to do. Deposits once you get approved range from $0-$700. It's insane!

But yes, if you bought a Bold from someone, ebay, craigslist, etc, make sure the IMEI is clear, it doesn't have to be unlocked, but if Alltell has the Bold, then having the Bold unlocked would allow you to use it on Altells network (assuming they use GSM).

At the same time, with a fully bought Bold, you can use it on AT&T with a no contract plan, but you would still be subject to the credit check.
