Can you run an older OS than what came on the device?
Please Login to Remove!
I have an 8900 with 4.6 and wish to run 4.5. Is this possible? Has anyone tried? And please, all of the fanboys that just MUST have every beta OS on their phone, don't even waste your breath in here or I'll just put you on my ignore list where you belong.

No, it isn't possible as there has been no 4.5 release for the 8900.

No, you can't run 4.5 on an 8900. The OS doesn't even exist.

As long as the OS is written for that specific model, yes. But some of the newer models do not have older versions of the OS available for them...

I'm curious as to why you want to run an older OS. What is the perceived benefit?

Perceived? Is that a joke? Go read my rant threads and go download another beta OS even though you can't remember (read: don't know) what changed since your last OS.

Cavi Mike, TXLady raises a good question. What to you look to accomplish by installing 4.5 on your 8900? There's no need to be hostile. It is a legitimate question.

It was a benign question. Not sure why you are so hostile about it. Obviously you perceive a benefit to using an older OS and I was curious what it was. Sorry if I haven't read every post you ever made but I also don't read the rants and raves section nor many others. I have to pick and choose what I do read and don't have time to read every subforum, only those of interest to me so I generally only check about four of the subforums here on BB Forums.

You want to install 4.5, an OS that is NOT designed for the 8900.
It will NOT work.

No. Wrong. By adding the word 'perceived' to her question, she is insinuating that I don't know of any benefit to doing what I asked was possible and that I just simply 'want to do it' for whatever reason. She instantly judged my knowledge with the addition of that one simple word. Ironically, it clearly shows she is the ignorant one.
To the rest of the people in here that answered my question, thank you. I've just installed a different 4.6 OS so hopefully it may have fixed some of the bugs. If not, I suppose I'll just have to deal.

Lighten up, Francis. Take it easy.
Your perception has clearly become your reality.
And I am judging your behavior.

I still don't know what benefit the OP perceives in the older OS and he hasn't chosen to tell us so I still don't perceive a benefit. I have not had negative experiences with OS 4.6 so don't perceive any reason to want to install an older version. Since most people perceive benefit from running a higher version OS, I was truly curious why you wanted to run the lower version. Our perceptions are colored by our experiences and we all see things differently. The fact that you have a different perception than I do does not make either of us ignorant, it makes us different. There is no reason we should all be the same but sharing your perception with me may cause me to look at things differently. Or not.
I hope the OP gets what he is looking for in the OS he has installed.

To stay on topic, what bugs/issues are you experiencing? If you list the problems you're having, we may be able to assist you.
