Default Alt-Sym-Del and Alt-Shift- Del

Please Login to Remove!

It appears that my phone will do a reboot with

left alt+right sym + del

However when i do a

left alt- right shift + del

it appears the phone freezes, the red light comes on and appears to do a memory clean.. or a ram cleanup? after 8-10 seconds i can use the phone again and it says memory card is inserted.

anyone know about this? bad phone?

Wirelessly posted

If I remember reading correctly, an alt-right shift- delete reboots, a double acts as a battery pull, and I don't know about the sym combo. I'll have to check that out.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...

On edit: yes, my 9700 acts as yours does. I don't think your device is bad.

I think it's OS version related. With 5.0.0.296 I was able to reboot using L Alt + R Shift + Del. But with 5.0.0.351 it does the memory clean.

What version are you running?

EDIT: I just did the L Alt + R Shift + Del again, and this time it rebooted.

Mine does nothing with a Sym combo either, for what it's worth.

No, every 9700, or almost any BB with a FULL keyboard uses that combo to reboot, and as was mentioned above, a 2nd reboot is basically the same as a battery pull. It's been this way for a long time on BB's. If you're not getting the reboot, you're not performing the sequence correctly. It's NOT OS related. The exact sequence is

1) Hold down the Alt - Right Shift
2) While holding those two keys down, press the BackSpace key and then release all keys.
3) The phone will freeze for about 10 seconds, red LED comes on then the phone reboots shortly after that...

Very slow reboot on the 9700 though...seems to be the trend these days. The newer the model, the slower the reboot.

The Symbol key is NOT used for a reboot sequence.

Yes, the SYM key did do a reboot on mine and the Shift key did some type of memory reset. But, now it's working like it should.
