Default Another BES upgrade question.

Please Login to Remove!

I cannot seem to find an answer to my first question, but here goes. I am setting up a new BES 5.0.1 server to replace my existing BES 4.1.3.16 server. I am planning on using the new transporter tool to migrate my 8 users to the new server. Do I use my existing SRP info on the new server and shut down a service on the old server and if so, does it still let me migrate the users without the services running?

#2 - I am in the middle of the 5.0.1 install and I am wondering if I have to have the Exchange System Manager installed? Reason I ask is my new BES 5.0.1 server is running Windows 2008 x64 and my Exchange server is Exchange 2003 which apparently is not complatible with Win2008. I am not able to install the ESM on the 2008 box so what do I do if I need it installed?

I had the same problem with exchange 2003 tools on the 2008 server. So I ended up making a XEN server for a short period of time until we have Exchange 2010 up and running.

you can use CDO 1.2.1 from M$ on the BES server.

on the first question. Yes you can use the same SRP. Just make sure to stop the BB Services on the 4.1.3 machine before starting it on the 5.0.1 machine. The Transporter tool transfers users between DB's so no problems there.

If I decide to (which I'm thinking of doing), can I go back to my old 4.1 server and if so, is there anything I need to do besides making sure the services are off on the 5.0 server?

Don't know why you would want to go back.... Don't think you can use the Ent Transporter to go back.

What you could do or could have done, is install the 5.0.1 BES on a separate box but point it to the DB of the first BES. This would have allowed you to have a 5.0.1 BES and a 4.1 BES in the same BB Domain and you could then move users back and forth between the two.

But... since you only have one SRP, you would only be able to have one on at a time, meaning you would have to move all users to one or the other. And you would have to manage with BAS from now on. Not BB Manager.

But it is/was a possibility...
