Wirelessly posted

I noticed that the reception for 2G is worse than the 9000. I have a spot in my apartment which is patchy already, but the 9700 keeps switching to SOS whereas the 9000 would just hover @ one bar.

Glad to hear it worked out for ya! :0

I actually find reception better on the 9700 than I did my 9000.

I noticed the exact same thing. Im getting my 9700 replced through warranty now. i was in a mall sunday and had SOS for 2 hours. Even turning off the phone / battery pull / resetting connections didnt help. and in parts of my house where i normally got 2-3 bars, i just get SOS now.

Last night, i put my phone on my night stand, as i have on my 9700, 9000, 8900, 8110, 8100.... same spot. It had 3 bars, but when i woke up (phone in the exact same spot), i had SOS. pretty sure i have a defective phone.

just to update, i just a new 9700.
on my couch, i went between 1bar EDGE, to 1bar egde, to SOS on the old device. with the new one, i got 4 bars 3G. No joke.

No more waking up to SOS, or getting SOS in randoms spots. Id RMA your phone.

I had the same problem with my 9700. The reception was just not as good as my 9000. I called Roger's Technical Support and they had me use the sim card that came with my 9700. My old sim card was about 3 years old......this seems to have made a difference. My reception is much better and the the bars seem to be on more than with my old sim card. I still personally feel the 9000 just had better reception........maybe it's just me but that's what I found with my 9000. But overall, the 9700 is a machine.....Happy New Year

The 9700 has great reception. If you don't then you have a defective phone as someone already pointed out.

Default 9700 Reception

You know I have DEFINITELY noticed that the 9700 clearly has worse reception! It has worse reception that the TP2 I was carrying and the 9000 that I had before (I still have all 3 for side by side comparison).
Strange thing I noticed with the 9700 is that my reception seemed to worsen when I updated my OS tot he latest .423 OS

Not sure what to do at this point but may return the 9700 if I don't figure out something soon.

I am still on .296 and have great reception even in my basement. Not sure I even want to move to .405 just yet.

Interesting. I am running .423 and have ZERO issues. Reception is nearly flawless. Could be your area?
