Default About to upgrade base BES 4.0 for Exchange -> SP3...

Please Login to Remove!

This is for Exchange, and I'm a bit paranoid about the process and something possibly going wrong, so I want to make sure I have everything down going into tomorrow morning's upgrade.

Before I upgrade I am going to export the server settings and user info and backup the database, incase something goes wrong and we need to reinstall.

As for the installation, I will be logged in as the blackberry service account. I am going to extract the SP3 download to a location on the server so that I have those file ready when they are needed for the HF1 and HF2 installations. I will also have the installation CD on hand incase the base installation files are needed in the Sp3 upgrade.

Now for questions:

Do I need to stop the blackberry services manually or will the SP3 install do that itself?

Any tricky areas to the Sp3 install I should be aware of before proceeding? I'm not TOO worried, because we do have T-support to fall back on just in case, but I want this to go PERFECTLY (like that is possible in the computer world), so I would prefer not to rely on the support.

After the install I am going to disable BESalert service to avoid the logging issue present with that service that has not yet been fixed by any service packs or hot fixes.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance!

When you start with the SP3 upgarde the BES service will be stoped. After installation you will be asked to reboot, I advice to do that.
Same for the Hotfixen.
It goes smart, and you have 3 reboots...

Bob

Thanks. Then after the upgrade I will need to upgrade the remote administration tools I have installed on my machine, correct?

Yes, that is the best. In this case the "old" software will work, but there are also things fixed for the remote software.

Well the upgrade is done and it went great. Now just to turn off BES Alert service to avoid the logging issue.

Cool Flawless Update!

BES 4.0 with Exchange 2003 SP1. Installed SP3 & HF2 last night. No problems. We run BES on a DL 360 with mirrored volume. I just removed one of the mirrored hard drives and put that away as a backup for recovery if necessary, performed the updates, checked & tested, then inserted another blank disk in place of the one I removed. Updates were successful and BES services and the Server itself are running within optimal parameters. I still have the backup drive just in case.
