I just got the 9700 over the weekend, and so far the OS 5 is a lot better than the 4.5 on my 8310....

Only issue I am having is this.... When I put a custom ringtone for people it ignores the profile sound for SMS... I get a generic sound when an SMS comes in from someone with a custom ringtone....

However, when I change the setting in the contact, to use the custom sound I want for SMS, it changes all message from that person to the sound....

Basically, I am asking if I am missing something, or if this is a known issue...

After playing around with this more.... it seems all messages (except BBIM) from contacts that have a custom ring tone come in with the tone in the contact, not with the one selected in the profile....

Any help would be great.... I just want all of my messages to come in with the custom tone, and not the same tone for all messages....

Well.....

I think it was a problem in the OS... I have upgraded to .423 and the message sounds seem to be good now..... so I am guessing it was a problem with .405...

Um. Are you sure?

I was aware the only custom ring tone for contacts was for phone and email?

Otherwise you need a third party software for bbim/aim chat ...etc

I am pretty sure.... The SMSs were coming in with the generic sound that was listed in the contact sounds....

I could be wrong, as it is no longer doing it.... coulda been the OS upgrade, coulda been me.....
