Default BESX 5.0 and BPS 4.1

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,

I am a relative newb when it comes to BES stuff, aside from basic administration.

I am currently running BPS on a Windows2k3SBS box with 5 users. We are adding 4 more users, so rather than purchase additional licensing, we are going with BESX. We have a 2k8 virtual box that we will be installing it on.

Now, my question is, will I have to uninstall the BPS from the other box before I install BESX or can I install and then use Transporter to migrate everything over?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if you are asking about installing BESX 5 on the same server or on your new 2k8 box....however last week I ran up a virtual box with BESX 5 and migrated (via BB transporter) 2 users from our BPS over to the new BESX 5 without any issues.
I've only been running BESX 5 for about 7 days and love it. The boss is already keen to move everyone over.

I can note I did have issues with deleting a user from BPS (leaving the BB folders in Exchange), wiping the handheld and added the handheld to BESX 5. It resulted in the BB thinking it had a duplicate of the BES Mailbox. BB Transporter worked without this issue, however I've read other forums on people that haven't had such a smooth run with BB Transporter.

Hope this is usefull.

Thanks.

I just found knottyrope's post of this subject, which was very enlightening. I currently have BPS running on the 2K3 SBS box, and the BESX is being installed on a 2K8 Virtual Box.

Transporter works most of the time, so when it fails you have to backup device, wipe, activate, restore and call it done.

I don't believe transporter will work with BPS.

I have helped migrate many people from BES 4.0, BES 4.1, BPS, BES 4.1 SBE to BES Express 5 using transporter with a high success rate.

What do you have to lose? It is only going to save you time.

Read my Sticky here that I posted for upgrade options

I can also confirm that transporter works in migrating users from BPS to BESX 5.0.

New wrinkle going on here after the install.

It appears to only happen with one handset that was on the old BES, but we deleted the user and added him to the BESX. I wiped the handheld and activated it wirelessly and it show in the BESX as being successful. It has the PIN and everything in there, and it is stating that it is forwarding messages to the device. When I go into the device itself, the service status shows No for both BIS and BES. I am pulling my hair our here because this is the owner's BB and he signs my checks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Nyet!!!

I called AT&T and they said that it was an issue with th IMEI not matching the SIM, yet it doesn't want to connect at all now. I have internet access, and the BESX is still showing connectivity. I have sent service books and renewed the IT Policy. I may have to put him on the old BES to see if that clears it up.

EDIT: I can send emails out, but still doesn't receive.

EDIT EDIT: Another I D ten T user error on my part. I disabled redirection on the old BES before deleting the user, and when I created the acct on the new server, it took that setting with it.

Thanks for all the help guys.
