Hi all,
My friend managed to lock / block their BB and eventually bought a newer model. They've now given the phone to me and I'd like to use it. How would I go about resetting the phone or restoring the factory settings please?

Input the password correctly and the device will unlock.

Or

Input the password incorrectly the set number of times and the device will wipe and reset.

I think they set it at just two or three password attempts for some reason and there's only one attempt left.
So if it wipes and resets, will it be in a usable condition?

Yes. It will be useable, and back to factory settings.... Or u can just ask your 'friend' what the password is

My 'friend' cannot rememeber the password or she would have entered it and continued to use it herself.

Understandable. It sounds werd that she couldn't unlock her phone, so she bought a new phone. No offense, but it does sound fishy, which is why I responded the way I did. But the above will work

Firstly, please don't make assumptions based on nothing but your own imagination and please don't judge my character when all you know about me is what name I've chosen to be known by and what phone I use. 'Fishy' may be how you've chosen to interpret my post, but that's all it is, your interpretation.

There have been many, many cases here where people have tried to break into other people's BBs ("I want to read my husband's SMS") and it happens all the time.

Sorry if you feel slighted, but people here are very suspicious when someone forgets their BB password.

I always find these fascinating. I suspect that the number of "forgets" is indicative of the onslaught of Alzheimer's we'll be seeing in the next decades.

It just seems odd that she didn't just enter the password incorrectly the appropriate number times herself and wipe the device and the start over fresh rather than purchasing a whole new device and having to start over fresh anyway.

Not that I should have to justify myself, but this happened over a period of time. She gave up trying to guess/ remember her password, put the phone away and forgot about it. She since bought another BB on contract and eventually gave me the old one.

Initially, when she forgot the password she wan't aware that she could reset the device by entering the password incorreclty the set number of times - neither was I, hence my OP.
